Developers refuse to respond to inquiries about
choice of location for apartments for mentally ill

Share |

After I called into question, in Tuesday's story, the decision of developers on where to site an apartment building for suburbanites who suffer from severe mental illness, I contacted each of the three developers to ask why they would want to put the project in a location that violates every standard that has established by the experts on where such a building should be located.

Of course they haven't responded.  That's because the site that they have selected is utterly indefensible.

I first contacted the North/Northwest Suburban Task Force on Supportive Housing for Individuals with Mental Illness ("Housing Task Force"), which is the major force behind the development.  I wanted to know why they chose the Boeger Road site, when their very own Vision Statement, as discussed in Wednesday's story, makes it overwhelmingly clear that Boeger Road is grossly unsuitable and entirely inappropriate for the needs of severely mentally ill people.

Here's what they had to say, in an e-mail that they sent to Rob Sherman News:

"Thank you for contacting the North/ Northwest Task Force on Supportive Housing for Individuals with Mental Illness.

"We appreciate your interest in bringing affordable housing to the north and northwest suburban area of Cook County Illinois and will be responding shortly."

Right!?  Thanks!  That sure is responsive.  Still waiting...

I then contacted both Thresholds and Daveri Development, the other two partners in the development.  Thresholds is the largest provider of services to the mentally ill in Chicagoland and Daveri builds these kinds of buildings for specialty situations.

Both of these other two developers promised that somebody would get back to Rob Sherman News to respond to concerns about the choice of location, but neither has, so far.  Again, that's not surprising, since the choice of location is utterly indefensible.

I let you know what they have to say for themselves, if they ever do get back to me.
